Attention 760 Area Code!

The 760 area code stretches from north of Mammoth Lakes to the Mexican border and east to the state line, and there is a limited supply of new phone numbers available. To remedy the situation, the Public Utilities Commission will be “overlaying” a new area code for existing phone numbers in the 760 area. Brand new phone numbers will be given the new area code 442. That means you won’t have the change your area code or phone number (that's good!), but you’ll have to change the way you dial (that's important!). Beginning May 2, you can start to dial the complete 10-digit phone number (1-760-phone number) when calling anyone in the 760 area code. On October 24, it will become mandatory. Local Teachers Honored

Adobe Bluffs Elementary School teachers, Havena Marks and Amanda Nobles are being honored by the cable industry for their demonstrated commitment to improving education in their community. Time Warner Cable and Cable in the Classroom, the industry’s education foundation, announced that Marks and Nobles have been chosen as co-finalists for the 2009 Cable’s Leaders in Learning Awards for their outstanding work in education and their community.
